Leveling Criteria
Each composition on this website is organized into one of five difficulty categories. Below is a description of the musical characteristics found at each level to help teachers and students find the right pieces.
BeginnerMore music coming soon!
Features primarily quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes, and whole note values with limited hand position changes.
Late Beginner
Includes left-hand patterns throughout pieces, some fingering guidance, limited hand position shifts, eighth-note patterns, tonic and V7 chords (both blocked and broken forms), hand crossing, dotted quarter note rhythms, 4/4 and 6/8 time signatures, minimal ledger line notes, octave markings, first and second endings, and hand-over-hand root position triads.
Intermediate
Incorporates sixteenth notes, full octave scales, simple syncopation, contrasting articulation between hands, and spread chord patterns across octaves.
Late Intermediate
Features cut time, alternating rhythmic patterns between hands, sections with both hands in treble clef, increased accidentals, grace notes, extended range to high E, and widely-spaced left-hand patterns.
Advanced
Expands on all previous levels with larger chords, more complex rhythmic structures, and greater technical demands.
